In looking back on some of my previous posts regarding these neighborhood posadas, I seemed to be somewhat critical of them. I am not. I think there is something to be said for annual Christmas traditions focused on the Christmas story. While many are out appeasing the gods of consumerism, these neighbors are gathering together to reenact a very special story. They are coming together and acting out an important ritual that unifies them in their catholic faith. We have been privileged to join them in this annual tradition. It kind of reminds me of when I would go caroling as a young person with a group of my friends. Our way of acting out the Christmas story was through song. May all of us find ways to act out the Christmas story this year, remembering the baby Jesus who came to us as Emanuel.
