In thinking through this new year, we are working towards several projects at the seminary. We would appreciate your prayers as we move ahead. In particular, would you be praying that we are given a $15,000 grant for the missions dept in order to move a head with these projects? I worked night and day … Continue reading Ministerial Goals for 2008

ESEPA Mission Center
Here are some recent pictures of the missions center at ESEPA plus a few extra photos of classes etc. The missions center includes a library for mission research, a meeting area, desks and of course a coffee maker! It has been a great place to mentor and pray with students.
Costa Rica rings in the New Year!
Here is some fascinating cultural information on how the New Year is traditionally celebrated here in Costa Rica (thanks to costaricapages.com): "In Costa Rica, housewives will sweep out the entire house on Dec. 31st to remove the past year’s evils and get a fresh start to the New Year. Others swear that putting water in … Continue reading Costa Rica rings in the New Year!

My hero – Joseph
“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife” (Matthew 1:24). Not much is spoken about the faith and boldness of Joseph around the Christmas season. He is usually mentioned in passing, yet what an important role he really had as the … Continue reading My hero – Joseph
Blogging las Posadas (part 3)
In looking back on some of my previous posts regarding these neighborhood posadas, I seemed to be somewhat critical of them. I am not. I think there is something to be said for annual Christmas traditions focused on the Christmas story. While many are out appeasing the gods of consumerism, these neighbors are gathering together … Continue reading Blogging las Posadas (part 3)

Last night our family set out to find out which home would be hosting the Christmas reenactment (las posadas). We received a schedule a few days ago, but because we are so new to the neighborhood, we don't know where the houses actually are located. As we set out, we found a familiar face walking … Continue reading Blogging las Posadas (part 2)
Blogging Las Posadas
What are las posadas you might be thinking? Good question! I had that same question last night after receiving an invitation from an older lady in our neighborhood to go and participate in an event on our street. She said the kids would really enjoy it as well. So we headed out towards where a … Continue reading Blogging Las Posadas
5 Million Trees and Counting
I suppose there are number of reasons why I like Costa Rica so much. Here is just one more: "The aim is to achieve the neutrality goal by 2021 to coincide with the country's 200th independence anniversary. The strategy will build on Costa Rica's decision to tax fossil fuels in 1996, with 3.5 percent of … Continue reading 5 Million Trees and Counting
Thanksgiving Feast in Costa Rica
I don't know about you, but I am still recovering from stuffing myself on Thanksgiving. We spent Thanksgiving with nearly 50 adults and kids up on the mountain east of San Jose at a beautiful retreat center. It was a really great time. Our good friend Martha Jeavons and Christina organized the whole event and … Continue reading Thanksgiving Feast in Costa Rica
