Blogging las Posadas (part 3)

In looking back on some of my previous posts regarding these neighborhood posadas, I seemed to be somewhat critical of them. I am not. I think there is something to be said for annual Christmas traditions focused on the Christmas story. While many are out appeasing the gods of consumerism, these neighbors are gathering together … Continue reading Blogging las Posadas (part 3)

Blogging las Posadas (part 2)

Last night our family set out to find out which home would be hosting the Christmas reenactment (las posadas). We received a schedule a few days ago, but because we are so new to the neighborhood, we don't know where the houses actually are located. As we set out, we found a familiar face walking … Continue reading Blogging las Posadas (part 2)

Thanksgiving Feast in Costa Rica

I don't know about you, but I am still recovering from stuffing myself on Thanksgiving. We spent Thanksgiving with nearly 50 adults and kids up on the mountain east of San Jose at a beautiful retreat center. It was a really great time. Our good friend Martha Jeavons and Christina organized the whole event and … Continue reading Thanksgiving Feast in Costa Rica

One smart little girl!!

A few years ago while we were stopping in the MSO (LAM's Miami Service Office in FL) we stopped in to talk with Danny Levi, LAM's Pastor to missionaries. Our daughter Kira found a book on the shelf entitled, "Infant Baptism" and pretended to read the book in a corner. I say pretended because she … Continue reading One smart little girl!!

Independence day

Yesterday Costa Rica celebrated 186 years of of independence from Spain. The day was marked with musical parades and family outings. Tyler actually dressed up for the occasion on Wednesday as we celebrated with the students from his school. It's exciting to see him and Kira fitting in more and more to their new lives … Continue reading Independence day

Panama Escape

We just returned from Panama. Our tourist visas were getting ready to expire so we needed to spend 72 hours outside of Costa Rica. It was a great trip! Upon leaving we needed to get a govt. authorization from the the transportation authorities to take the car outside of the country. That was a little … Continue reading Panama Escape

OUR Working Children

Yesterday, Christina told me to come out and see what the kids were up to. As I peeked out from my study cave and looked out the front door, I see Tyler and Kira working away, cleaning the sidewalk and walls of our apartment. How ironic I thought to myself. Just seconds before I was … Continue reading OUR Working Children

A Surfer is Born

This past weekend we had the opportunity to get to the beach before Tyler's school started on Monday. Yup, that's right, we found a great school for Tyler. More about that later....now to the important stuff 🙂 As a dad and someone who enjoys to surf I have been hoping my son and daughter would … Continue reading A Surfer is Born

Moving on

Our days at the PMH (Providence Mission Homes) are coming to an end. We have developed some great friendships while living here. Some of our friends from here are now serving in Cameroon, Kenya, China, Mongolia, Thailand and Nepal. Tyler and Kira have made some really great friends as well. Saying goodbye has not always … Continue reading Moving on
